Process:
Here’s how you can create your own mini art pieces that can be used around the house!
Start off by levelling your surface, I’m using 4 inch MDF wood circles. Levelling is extremely important to begin with since it’ll make sure your paint flows along the surface well and when you get to the stage of pouring resin you will definitely get the best result.
Now prepare your wooden circles by painting two layers of the Titanium White or whichever color you want to choose as your background.
While the second layer is still wet go in with a round paint brush and any acrylic color of your choice. Painting your next layer while the previous one is still wet is your secret weapon and will give you the desired fluidity!
Keep adding paint and water, bit by bit, you can also go in again with some white towards the edges to make the blue flow more seamlessly.
Once you’ve got your desired outcome let your coasters dry completely, this is extremely crucial as the resin can react with the water or paint if the layers haven’t been given enough time to dry.
Now onto the most exciting part! Grab your Haksons Resin & Hardener -Ultra Clear High Gloss Epoxy Resin Coat -Grade I. For each coaster you will approximately need 15 ml – 20ml of resin, mix it in a 3:1 ratio or as per the instructions on your bottle.
While mixing your resin always use a plastic container and protect your hands by wearing Powder Free Disposable Gloves. Mix the resin with a wooden stick until all the streaks disappear and leave the mixture to cure.
Once your resin is cured, pour it onto your coaster. This has to be the most magical part of the process! You will watch your coaster transform into a beautiful piece of art and the details come to life.
Once again make sure your coaster is perfectly levelled, now go in with a wooden stick and bring the resin to the edges of your coaster. It’s always better to pour less to begin with and then add more resin as and when you need.
When your coaster is completely coated, there could be a few air bubbles. Use your Artist Blow Torch in short quick strokes to get rid of them.
Keep the coaster aside for 24 hours in a place where it will not be moved or touched. Covering the top with a plastic container will help prevent it from any dust or dirt that might fall on the surface.
And Voila! Your masterpiece is ready to use! You can keep hot or cold beverages on your coasters. For an easy clean up wipe it with a damp cloth. These could make for an amazing house warming gift as well!
